Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1171120/Nira/

Description:

SURVIVE

You folks ever sit around and actively think to yourself like, wow, this survival game is like a metaphor for my life? Like, it’s almost not clever, right? Of COURSE survival games feel like a metaphor because literally the only thing you HAVE to do while living your life is not die, right? It’s like grabbing a copy of Mario Kart and being like, wow, this is a metaphor for racing. Like, maybe it’s not a metaphor at all, and surviving just IS life? Does that make sense?

Yes? No?

Well anyway, the point is, we got this cool game Nira for you, it’s one of those “simple yet infinitely deep” types where you learn everything in like five minutes and then you spend the next 20 hours mastering it like you would your knife skills in the kitchen, and best of all for a survival game, and this might even have something to do with that metaphor from earlier, but it’s got four player co-op, which you might say is the same as real life, because having friends makes surviving life way easier.

Now, even when this game isn’t on sale, it’s pretty dang cheap, but at 25% off, this game costs less than it does to have fries and a drink with your Baconator, and as we all know, in a survival game, those few bucks you save could be instrumental in getting through the winter. Granted it’s almost the very apex of summer, but you get the freaking point. Buy Nira today.

Description:

WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING

So, I did it. As you know, I love Warhammer, especially 40K. I’m the Warhammer guy. I love the models, I love the games, I love buying my White Dwarf magazines, I love it all. And yet, I’ve gotten a bit behind because as you ALSO know, I was struck by a passing truck and slipped into a coma on September 19th 2004, one day before the release of my most anticipated game of the year, Dawn of War. That’s where I was up until one week ago at 9am, and with no new memories, like someone turning on a PC with Windows 3.1 in 2004, I immediately perked up and asked am I okay? Will I be able to make it in home in time to beat the postman to my house with my copy of Dawn of War?

Turns out, it’s been 16 years, and not only is Dawn of War out, there’s also a second Dawn of War, and each one has like a million DLC’s. I bought something on a website called Steam today that came with all that stuff for just thirty bucks, and it’s all I’ve really been doing since I’ve been back. I’m adjusting pretty well, not that much seems different since 2004. Apparently, a couple other weird things have happened in the world that I’ve asked my parents not to tell me about yet, I’m 34 now, and there’s even a Dawn of War III, but I don’t think I can handle any of that yet.

All my friends have turned into parents, movies have gotten way weirder, Dunkin Donuts are just called Dunkin, but after buy this franchise pack, I now have enough Dawn of War to play to make up for all the time I spent sleeping. I know not ALL of you are just coming out of comas, and I know I haven’t done much else yet, but trust me, this sale has been the craziest news yet by FAR.

You look at your last bite of chicken, nestled there between the nice big chunks of egg and caramelized onion. You don’t look behind you. You already know who’s behind you.

Description:

YOU ARE THE CAPTAIN NOW

Look, yes. You got us. That title up there is a reference to a movie (which I haven’t even actually seen, by the way) called Captain Phillips, and let’s be honest, the meme itself has grown even beyond the freakin’ movie at this point. But that is beside the point because “You are the captain now” also just happens to be the perfect tagline for the star of today’s very affordable and worthwhile video game sale, a game called Between the Stars in which, you guessed it, you become the captain of an interstellar cruiser.

Granted, that’s not super related to the Somali pirate hostage tale you can expect (allegedly) from the movie, but like, come on, you get what we’re saying. You are the captain (of the interstellar cruiser) now. Even if the real Captain Phillips never got kidnapped and that movie never existed, we could still title this “You Are The Captain Now”, and no one would bat an eye. You’d still be paying us very little money, spending hours maintaining your crew, engaging in skirmishes, and making Picard-ian moral decisions at every turn either way.

Anyway, we’re sorry if thinking of that seven year old meme bummed you out for any reason, and furthermore, for our own sakes as creatives who are out here every day just trying to make it all work, let’s take a second and acknowledge that no matter what we do, people have just made too much stuff, and almost nothing is a completely original idea anymore. So, you know, throw us a bone. Or actually, throw us sixteen point seven four bones, then we’ll give you this game.

Description:

DEFEATING EVIL

As lucky as some people are to be able to be working from home in these strange and brain-numbing times, and honestly, thanks again for jumping on Zoom with me, it really means a lot to have someone to talk to for a few hours, sometimes it can be kind of rough to wake up, get out of bed, walk three feet, and suddenly I’m at my desk, and people are constantly messaging me on Slack, and this one friend I have, we call him Voldo, who didn’t even have a job BEFORE the pandemic, keeps messaging me in our private bro-zone Discord because he made a black and white “edit” of Sonic the Hedgehog he wants me to watch…Huh? Yeah, like from Tekken…

But I don’t know, right? Like, sometimes I just want to close my eyes and live a totally different kind of life, you know? Like, the world’s so crazy already anyway, so why SHOULDN’T I entertain what it might be like to be to fight against the Seven Sin Lords for control of the Valley of the Fallen Sinners? Like how is that any less believable than anything else that’s been going on? I’m already staring evil straight in the face on Twitter for three hours a day like, weeping for my country, and I work 40 hours a week from my bedroom! You’re gonna tell me that from the hours of midnight to 2am I can’t just wade into a sea of unholy and imaginary terror as little treat, and slice my way through it with my mighty blade?

No…I mean, yeah, I KNOW no one’s actually trying to stop me, but damn, sometimes it’s hard not to feel guilty doing anything besides witnessing history unfold in real time, you know? And look, we both know Voldo’s crazy, I mean, I don’t even think he has a cell phone, but he said something about it that kind of stuck with me. He said “Dude, the most important thing right now is learning as much as you can about it, and doing what you can to help out.” I can’t really do the voice, but he kinda sounds like the puppet from Grounded For Life…but you know, the message itself really rings true to me.

Description:

SHOWER THOUGHTS

Do you ever think about what goes on in other people’s minds when you’re playing a turn-based game and it’s not your turn? Do you think most people keep their head in the game and stay focused on their target, or are more people sitting there, gripping their sweet space weapon in their hands and letting their mind wander all over the place, from whether or not you left the gas on to weather or not your friend was offended when you called them “perfect sidekicks”?

Well, if your name is Max Carnage and you’ve accidentally found yourself on a messed up zombie ship like the Wanderer, you’ve probably got a lot on your mind. Like number one, could you ever get past the fact that your name is the same as when you’re trying to tell someone there simply couldn’t be any more carnage? Do you think your parents were aware of what they were doing when they called you that, or was it just a coincidence? What about when it comes to the name Rip Torn? Was that a joke or did someone really think that was cool?

And then, as you take your shot and melt a zombie’s face off, you’re probably only moving for a second or two anyway, so do you take a second to try and scratch your nose as part of the same little piece of animation, or does that break the rules in your mind? Is there really the maximum amount of carnage one man can handle, or is that just what it says on your birth certificate? Hazardous Space is available now. Don’t miss your turn.

A CUTE STORY

Once upon a time, there was a happy little village called Darkwater. They were simple folk, and they lived free and easy, and when they looked to the sea for sustenance, the sea provided, and eventually, after a few short years, Darkwater was suddenly a booming little whaling town. It didn’t take much hunting to bring in enough food and supplies for the whole village, and for years and years, that’s exactly what they did.

One day, however, in the 1840’s, there suddenly weren’t enough whales to go around. It was almost like they all caught wise and stopped coming around, and in an instant, Darkwater went from happy and contented, to hungry, poor, and sad. People were dying, families were crying, and soon, something people thought they’d be relying on forever was nothing more than a fading memory.

But then, something incredible happened. A local whaling ship called the Scylla, one of the last in town, returned to town with something…different. Pounds and pounds of oceanflesh that the town consumed with gratefulness and love in their hearts, the “miraculous catch” is what saved that old village, and today, some will tell you they can still taste that sea beast’s meat today, and that somewhere deep down inside, it’s made them who they are today. Never reject help from beyond where we believe we know.

Oh my god, dude!

What? We got out of the universe portal like one second ago! How are you already so lit up?

Are you serious? We’re on MARS, man! And it’s supposed to be like, post-apocalyptic or some shizz!

Oh whoa, really? I wonder if we’ll have any cultural context for it aesthetically, or if our Earth tropes will have no power here on this alien world.

Huh? Sorry, I wasn’t listening. I was too busy looking for Technomancers.

Looking for WHAT?

Uhh, did you not even real the blurb before you dropped into the portal? I said I’m looking for TECHNOMANCERS. They’re like, super sick warriors with electrical powers.

That does sound sick…but wouldn’t they be like Electromancers? Rather than Technomancers?

What?

What?

What the hell kind of question is that? We walked out of a PORTAL onto FUTURE MARS and you’re like “Umm actually”-ing the mulitverse? You’re killing my vibes, man!

Okay, okay, okay! I’m sorry, okay. I’m just weirded out. Never went through a portal before. This sounds more like something from a video game than the real world.

It is a video game! And in another reality, it’s just some baby’s dream! That’s the beauty of the multiverse!

Yeah, I guess…seems kinda weird, though.

Oh, it TOTALLY is…

A REGULAR CUSTOMER

Hey man, listen, I know you come here a lot. I mean, I work counter most days on account of it’s my uncle who owns the place, so it’s not like I’m looking for just you or anything. I guess people who actually make the effort to drive all the way out here to play pinball on a regular basis aren’t screwing around, you know what I mean? Not at all…a-and they way I’ve been seein’ YOU play? Oh man, you’re just incredible. Like, people use that word a lot but I really mean it I haven’t seen anybody else who comes close.

Anyway, uh, I hope you don’t mind me coming over here to talk to you or anything. I can just get out of your way if that’s how you’d rather do it. I’m just like, interested, you know? Most people who come in here aren’t like, similar to me in age so we don’t have much to talk about. But yeah, I’m not trying to distract you if you really need the quiet to concentrate. I can just sit back and zip it up, if you need. That is, if you mind me watching at all, cause I could also just take off back to the register if you need…

…yeah…

So hey, it’s just a funny little thing I like to imagine sometimes, but I figure I’m here talking to you so I might as well ask: do you ever just look at all the pieces of a pinball machine and let your imagination run a little bit? Like maybe it’s not just a game you play with quarters, maybe it’s some kind of ancient weather making machine, and maybe it’s huge for the small people running around inside, and maybe you have to fix the machine up to help your nearby village to survive? And it’s kinda still like pinball but it’s also kind of like a puzzle?

…yeah, no, you’re right, that was a lot.

LETTER FROM THE EXPEDITION

My Dearest Hilde,

Dr. Grizzom has gotten us all mixed up in a pickle jar this time, my darling. And the worst part is, I had already known for some time that it was coming. Yes I, like some sort of amnesiac lemming upon hearing the word “treasure” glide across my ear holes, packed up all my science studying equipment and once again entrusted my mortal safety and soul to this maniac doctor, who last time we met, almost fed me (on purpose) to a giant bejeweled godsnake! I thought it a fluke, you know? That perhaps Grizzom was a seasoned professional after all and that the snake incident was nothing but the unavoidable result of some unfortunate circumstances…who could have guessed how soon the mummies would be upon us?

Anyway, my darling, I’ve nailed myself inside a shipping crate near the water’s edge and I’m writing this note to you now by candlelight, even though the heat in these cramped quarters is absolutely unbearable, in case this is the last thing I ever get to say to you. I love you, my darling Hilde. If Dr. Grizzom lets these godforsaken mummies eat me, I hope you might honor my memory by ending his life for me, like I most certainly would have, had I not nailed these slats on here so goddamn hard. I’m going to try and look outside the box. One moment.

Okay, my dear. I know this is one just one letter written at two separate times, and that it indeed probably would have been easier just to write you two letters, but I have an update. Outside the box there are presently no mummies at all, but curiously, there are also no people. I’ve been able to kick my way out the side of the box as I’ve always had strong legs, but imagine my disappointment when I realized everyone had gone. Anyway, I’m rich now. Just picked up a bunch of ancient jewels up off the ground where they lay. I think the family curse is finally coming to an end!

Love, Kerbin

TRYING 4

Hello there, traveler! I was just out here minding my own business, walking along, and there you were! My my my! Imagine something like this happening, just meeting you like this on the road! It’s wild, isn’t it? Eh. I’d act more surprised, but in 2.5D, you’ll eventually run into everyone because it’s still really only 2 dimensions, isn’t that what they say? Ahahah, oh, I slay myself…anyway, uh, listen, you don’t happen to be a wizard, a knight, or a thief, do you?

Hahaaa, uh…see, well…if you are? It kind of requires you to make a selfless choice for the greater good, but just listen to how bad it is before you decide the planet can survive your inaction, okay? It’s Prince Selus, you see. You know, the prince with the insane magical powers? Well, everytime this guy falls asleep, he calls forth monsters from the nightmare realm and lets them loose upon the public! In these situations, we usually ask the village hero to step up to the plate, but he got his face ripped off by a nightmare beast and died, so now it’s up to you…and hopefully two others!

See, we crunched the numbers, we looked at the charts, we made some very intricate drawings, and finally, it allowed us to create a complex algorithm which determined the best possible chance any group could have is if you combine the talents of a wizard, a knight, and a thief. It sounds weird as heck, but trust me! I may look like sort of mage or high priest, but for me, it’s just science! Have fun!

Description:

FIRE AND ICE

Ahhhh, fire and ice. Heat and cold. Two diametrically opposed forces, inextricably linked and dependent on each other, and yet, they are also each other’s oldest natural enemy. Just imagine, holding…some ice cubes near a fire…well, I mean, I guess they would melt and maybe turn into water, which would still be cool because maybe then it would sizzle in the flame. As long as it’s not too much water though because then it’ll put the fire out, and then no one gets to have fun, not the fire or the ice…

Look, our anxiety brain isn’t going to let this one go, but take it from us, Degrees of Separation, a game where you (and even a friend) can together harness the powers of both heat and cold, inescapably linked, and yet separated by an enigmatic force, is absolutely beautiful and complete worth the three measly bucks we’re asking for. In fact, we’re not even sure you could buy matches and a bag of real ice for that cheap, though again we just want to make clear that matches are very fickle, and even the slightest wetness will-

But alas, that has nothing to do with this fantastic little puzzler we’re selling today, and honestly, now that it has online multiplayer too, at the very least, don’t you want to jump on a Discord call and have something to do for a few hours with a friend? Isn’t that better than satisfying your curiosity by lighting one of those old timey Dickensian bedside candles and positioning it under a soggy bag of ice hanging from a string? Isn’t that a weird idea we keep having?

A GAME ABOUT YOUR STUFF

Someone is finally going through a box of things I left on a chair next to my liquor cabinet for like two years. I don’t even remember what’s in the box. There’s a plastic Santa and his reindeer, about the size of a box of saltines, which was probably made in the 1960’s, sitting on top of an old microphone and a hundred year old clock and a box filled with the stuff from a 23 and me I didn’t do. Resident Evil 6 for PS4 was also in the box, right next to the box for my second 3DS, the first XL I ever bought.

Why did I leave this box here? I think I was about to move some stuff around so I got it all together but then it just morphed into “part of the background”, like a separately animated piece of the environment from a Hanna Barbera cartoon that you know is going to move soon because it’s a different color than the rest of the wall. But who does this box say I am? A cool dude? A sentimental idiot? A guy who spends WAY too much money on crap he’ll never use?

Well, lucky for all of us, the real subject of Look Inside isn’t crappy old boring me anyway. It’s an interesting French family, with many generations of exciting old stuff to look through as you fill out your family tree. This game is actually varied and interesting and fun on an interesting and very chill level, and unlike a game about me, doesn’t have to mark the passage of time based on what AAA game I bought for myself and then left to gain dust on my shelf. Buy it today for like four bucks and you’ll AT LEAST get your money’s worth.

Description:

VISUAL POETRY OF BRUTALITY

Today’s game Valfaris is a unique fusion of sci-fi exotica and brutal metal-inspired violence, so to better honor that, today’s copy is going to be written in the style of what we like to call “a visual impression poem”. Zak said that actually, every poem should seek to make a nice visual impression on some level, but we think once you read these beautiful words, you’ll get it.

“See the metal world.
Blood wire and flesh and…loook! Wow!
A big
gory
man!
In the toxic skies
of green and pink,
Valfaris.

Hear the metal sounds.
Strings shred and flesh and…oh! Yow!
A big
gory
robot!
Can you see him
beeping and dying,
Valfaris?

Be the metal man.
Your father’s failure and flesh and…dang! Look!
A gross
cool
gun!
Metal tentacles
turn to chum
on Valfaris.”

Okay, so yeah. That’s our poem. If that didn’t already practically give you the whole experience of playing the game just from reading it, why not give it a shot today? Fifteen bucks is worth it, and Valfaris is actually tight! So go! Play it! Vaporize your enemies and take the city back from your father’s corrupted ways!

Description:

ROAD TO ASGARD

Man, vikings are totally badass. Like, picture one in your mind (not Thor) and just think about the armor, the hair, the weapons, the sheer size (stop thinking about Thor), and then to realize those things were totally real? And they walked the same Earth that we do today? What happened to us? Humans used to be waaaaay more simple and waaaaay better at killing each other with our bare hands and living off the land, huh?

So yeah, today’s game is all about this guy, a super badass warrior, who didn’t die quite right, so instead of putting the dude on a bench in a white room in purgatory, he got sent all the way to Niffelheim, the between realm, where you have to get strong again and kick a bunch of people’s asses again, just to prove that you actually belong in heaven with the rest of the badasses! That’d be like if when you got put onto unemployment, you had to work another full on job to get your check! Except in this case the job can impale you on a spear…

So here’s to the vikings, those incredible historical badasses (please stop imagining Thor), and here’s to Niffelheim for being on sale today for five bucks. And you know what’s great? You even get some nice sexy Odin’s Blessing DLC completely for free on the side (the real one, not Anthony Hopkins). So grab your copy today, and have fun proving to some extremely badass gods that you actually belong in the afterlife! (Okay, you can think of Thor again now.)

Description:

CARRYING AROUND A BALL OF S**T

There is a lot to say about a game like Yoku’s Island Express. From jump, the first thing you have to address is that this jolly little rascal does most of his fun “riding around on a pinball metroidvania” stuff he does on a big dry ball of poop. Like, it’s not trying to be South Park or anything, there’s no shocking gross-out factor, he’s just a sweet little dung beetle, and like all dung beetles do, he carries his pooball around, and uses it for stuff. He gets stuff done with that poo. Who can blame him?

And honestly, hasn’t it felt a little bit like we’ve all been carrying around a big white hunk of hot dry crap everywhere with us lately? And yet, if you head to the Steam page, the only reviews you see are people saying that Yoku has been one of their most fun gaming experiences in a long time, and that the game is beautiful, and that Yoku’s smile is infectious. Nobody at all is like “the image of poop grossed me out” or “I hate dung beetles” or “once I found out it was poo, I uninstalled the game”.

This is because Yoku, like many of us, has heard the idiom about taking lemons and making lemonade, and, since he’s physically way smaller than any lemon, and since he mainly only eats off his ball of dry shit, what he’s literally done instead is take a giant ball of stanky cranky poo poo and turned it into a source of joy for thousands of other people, who maybe can’t naturally stretch their imaginations that far. And to us, this is something everyone can learn from. He took his shit and made shitonade. In a good way. Yoku’s Island Express is $3.99. Buy that crap.

Description:

ANOTHER DUNGEON CRAWLER

The hero, in their generic neophyte tunic, has a moment of clarity as they once again step through the threshold and into a dungeon.

Why am I actually doing this? Why this again?

Almost immediately they must draw their early game weapon to dispatch a couple harmless level one foes, just to get the juices flowing. But then, their mind knocks against the door of reality once again, asking more questions without answers.

Who is this all ultimately for? How many more times must I die?

Their arm thrusts forward unexpectedly from under their cloak, shoving the blade of a short sword so far into a skeleton’s eye socket, it cracks the top of its skull off and it lands on the floor with a clatter.

All this so some gamer can pass the time? I am a warrior, not a toy!

Your arrow pins a boney arm to the wall and you crush an ancient sternum under your heavy leather boot. You think you’ve won for a brief moment until you hear the deep rumble of the walls shifting inside the temple. The biggest skeleton you’ve ever seen lumbers out from some newly revealed door, dragging behind him a claymore fit for a giant.

And yet again, the hero falls so the gamer may feel some small sense of-

The skeleton swings his might sword, and you move your shield to intercept it, fully expecting it to cleave you and your measly wooden plank into two clean halves, but…it doesn’t. It holds. You glance at the metallic rim of your new shield you found in the last dungeon. The bone giant swings again, and you handily dodge out of the way. The path forward is clear. You run up his might bone arm onto his shoulders and you stab the blade downwards, straight through his mouth so it rips off his jawbone and brings the whole beast tumbling down. Within the folds of his rotting cloak you find enough gold to buy yourself a whole new set of gear. You look up towards the dungeon exit and you keep walking towards it, sword held high.

Why do I throw myself at this again and again? Why do I chase the Mana Spark? Why must I so often die? The answer is simple: to grow.

Description:

SPACEMATES

Some of the most annoying, non-depressed, go-getter roommates will sometimes, in actual seriousness, call apartment meetings and say things like “this apartment is like our spaceship, and we need to keep it flying right as we journey through”. This is a nonsense phrase that means nothing. The apartment is only like a spaceship if people actually live on the spaceship, which is definitely not how most spaceships are in real life, and if what they actually meant was something more like Star Wars, it’s pointless because they have totally different technologies and priorities than us.

And besides, like, is a protocol droid also kind of a butler or what? Could you ask C-3P0 to do a once-over and clean up all the trash in the main cabin? Doesn’t matter. Point is, asking your roommates to pretend their apartment is a spaceship means nothing. HOWEVER, if you are in fact a group of roomate aliens trying to make things work together on an actual, liveable, comfortable spacecraft, saying something like “pretend this spaceship is an apartment” makes total sense, and what’s more, we’re here to tell you, it works.

Everybody has to decide together where stuff goes, you have to come up with a schedule so everyone can eat comfortably and deal with the crash that comes after, and oftentimes, there’s even a creeping alien infestation that forces everyone to clean the whole place from time to time like a sticky purple glowing metaphor for housework. You can even make the bad choice of getting a dog together with your roommates! It seems fine now, but wait til the one who loves the dog most wants to move out and tries to take him. Anyway, you get the point. An apartment is not like a spaceship, but a spaceship is a lot like an apartment. Still no word on exactly what makes a condo a condo, but hey, we’re just trying to sell a video game here, not solve life’s mysteries.

Description:

GO GO SMOOTHIE WORKOUT

Now, let us be clear. While definitely inspired by Power Rangers, today’s game Chroma Squad is more of a loving tribute than some kind of weird copy, since rather than being an in-world story, this one’s about a group of stunt actors who decide to make a sentai TV show together. As such, it takes place in a tv studio with rinky dink sets and cardboard monsters instead of a town like Angel Grove, where we only ever saw the park, the high school, and the squints “Angel Grove Youth Center Gym and Juice Bar”.

Wait, what? Now look, we know the score. Power Rangers is a fast food tv show, which means it’s more like eating some Taco Bell or McDonalds than it is a $60 NY strip, but that place is probably the weirdest single location in children’s television history, like a YMCA and a TCBY spontaneously appeared at the same time in the same place and tried to be both places at once. Like, they can practice karate there, have a birthday party there, play arcade games, and grab a smoothie all in the same place.

And if that isn’t enough, once Ernie, the wise-cracking juice bar/youth center owner decides to go help kids living in South America (weirder if you look up a picture of Ernie), he’s able to leave the bar to Lt. Stone, a police officer/police training instructor who literally adopts Bulk and Skull while they’re temporarily turned into monkeys, and then just sort of keeps them when they revert back to humans. Anyway, it’s weird, but Chroma Squad is not, it’s nice, it’s fun, and it’s only like three bucks, so go go give it a shot.

Description:

STALIN’S PICTURE

The office with a picture of Stalin on the wall is quiet. The cabinets are polished with their doors closed. On the heavy wooden desk is a lamp with a stained glass shade that looks like it’s from the caboose of a train. 36 government-issue drawers are stacked along the wall and filled with all kinds of official documents, next to the giant effing picture of Stalin on the wall.

Hanging from the opposite wall in an L-shape from the dictator’s portrait, past the uglier and less necessary lamp set into the plaster between them, is a giant golden crest, the size of an adult toboggan, wreathed with molded ribbons and bundles of wheat and emblazoned with the state emblem of the Soviet Union covering the whole world and the sun rising beneath it. It’s not possible to overstate how completely huge it is, towering like it does over the gramophone sitting on the desk just below it.

But what is this room? Some office? The seat of power for some local politician? A place where you come to get papers signed? Perhaps once, but now, as the heavy bootfalls run their way up the hall, it becomes harder to miss the dust and the cracked paint, and as the silent soldiers filter in and take cover, it makes more sense why some of the drawers are hanging open and empty. When the grenade flies through the window and everyone leaves again, the office with the picture of Stalin on the wall seems quiet again, but when the explosion hits it all burns in the fire.

Description:

MIND GRAPE FLOW STATE

Have you ever played a tabletop RPG campaign with friends that got so real you forgot where you were while you were playing it? Like, where when you look down at yourself, instead of wearing your normal schlubby game night clothes, you can actually see the armor on your body and the weapon in your hand? Have you ever taken a bite of the summer sausage and Ritz snack tray and wondered to yourself “where did this come from? Aren’t we in a dungeon?”

You get the idea. It’s rare that anything without a screen (or at least some bacon and a fried egg) on it becomes totally immersive anymore, but tabletop RPGs never fail to deliver that delicious imagination fuel you need to forget yourself and become the game. And yet, we here at Chrono, a company that sells video games you play on screens, realize that a lot of you out there reading this probably have never felt that feeling, whether it be because you’ve never played a tabletop RPG before, or you’re just too cool for school and unlike Elsa, can’t let yourself go.

But do not worry, because we did not just bring this up to make fun of you and call you a “no-imagination jones”, we actually offer a solution! Today’s game is Galaxy of Pen and Paper, and it’s about a bunch of friends rolling dice in the 90’s so hard that they go INTO their favorite tabletop sci-fi RPG. Now you can relive that wonderful gift again and again without ever having to work out your own creative juices! Isn’t that great? Plus, and this huge for right now, you can play it while you’re totally alone! Awesome, right? Friends for when you have none! Thanks Chrono.gg!

HOLMES AND WATSON WAS ROBBED

Watson?

Yes, Holmes?

It seems my game, The Devil’s Daughter is available for sale on a most curious website called Chrono.gg.

Curious, Holmes?

It’s purple and yellow, doctor.

“Website”, Holmes?

Never mind that, my man, you’d never understand even if I tried to explain.

Holmes, you give me no credit.

What? Of course I do, Watson! Why, you’re practically more famous than I am, except you’re not as good at detecting!

Right then, are we really going to get into this now?

No, no, you’re right, I’m sorry Watson. The internet is a global system of interconnected machines all over the world that communicate with each other instantaneously and also display that information to us, the users, through an electronic window that displays artificial images. A website is like a town on the map of that network, and people use them as everything from diaries to remote storefronts.

Hmm…

Hmm? That’s all you have to say is hmm?

Well, it’s all so much to take in, isn’t it?

Ah, Watson. I’d say I hate to say I told you so, but the thing is…I don’t! Ahaha.

Right. Well, what is it that’s bothering you then, Holmes?

It’s my game Watson, it’s 90% off.

What? That’s amazing! I’ll buy myself a copy right away! Where do I go?

No, Watson. I think you’re missing the point. I’m offended that any game with my name on it would ever drop below full price!

Vanity, Holmes. It does not look good on you.

Oh do shut up, Watson, you unsavory rascal…

Just keeping your feet on the ground my friend.

And that’s why I love you. By the by, have you seen Joanna anywhere? We were going to puzzle over a case together tonight.

I haven’t. She’s probably fine though.

Yeah, you’re right. I just…have a feeling I guess.
